PODCAST: Tricks and Treats
Happy Halloween! Between the costumes and free candy handouts, I am not sure what I like more about Halloween. In fact, for as long as I can remember, Halloween has been one of my favorite holidays. As a child, I loved dressing up and collecting candy with my friends and now as an adult I love decorating my house and seeing all the neighborhood kids having fun. However, Halloween is more then just free candy and some fun tricks, the history behind this spooky day is pretty interesting. Halloween was believed to have orginated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off spirits. Years later during the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor All Saints (we have a playlist for this too!) and this holiday incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was know as All Hallows' Eve and later became known as Halloween. But enough history lets get to the music!
